My wife and I actually had a fridge that was working perfectly fine, but we just had our fourth kid in five years and suffice it to say we go through a lot of snacks and a lot of milk. With our other side-by-side fridge, we adjusted the top shelf so that it could hold milk/jugs of apple juice, but we’d have to unload the whole shelf to get what we were after, night after night!

We also found the space of our old side-by-side cramped and difficult to see, let alone retrieve items on the bottom shelf.

This rf4287hars solves those problems and does so with style! The first thing worth mentioning is that the side door can easily hold four one-gallon milk jugs! The way Samsung uses the interior space is also impressive! There are sections that flip up vertically to accommodate our jugs of apple juice, and a separate shelf with a retractable front section to allow for, e.g., Costco-sized pickle jars.

This is accomplished not only through smart design of the shelving, but also through advanced insulation whose thinness allows for a full 28 cubic feet of interior space! Even the subtleties like the placement of the filter (which is long and slender and fits between the two shelves at the bottom to minimize its impact on space) are intentionally thought out to make it easy to fit everything you need into the fridge.

The kid’s zone middle drawer is also nice, though a little tall for our three year old and under kids, and the button to adjust temperature is right in front, so kids have to be old enough to be over their fascination of pushing buttons to fully utilize the drawer.

For the bottom freezer drawer, I was a little worried that it would be hard to find our food given the big drawer nature of the unit, but I think it’s actually easier to see everything than it was with our old side-by-side fridge. The space is big and open, you look straight down on everything and can see where it is at a glance with everything placed on its side, and there’s an interior drawer on the top 1/4 of the space to hold items you’re especially interested in finding quickly.

Again, the use of space is near perfect!

rf4287hars is  also attractive, with it’s cool interior LED lighting, stainless steel exterior, and cool looking blue icon touch screen controls by the ice maker.

So far, I love the fridge!

One quick random tip, by the way: if you live in a dry climate, as I do, feel free to turn the “Energy Saver” mode on. All it does is prevent condensation, which you won’t have a problem with if the climate is right. You may as well save the energy and little bit of money.

We bought rf4287hars back in October when we moved into a new home. With the exception of a few minor flaws/problems we could not be happier. It does a great job keeping things cool and/or frozen. Great space capacity and very well lite inside. Problem one occurred just recently, 6 months after purchase. A weld on one of the shelves broke, but due to the stability of the design nothing fell of and there were no real problems. It is still under warranty so the shelf was easily replaced. Problem two is that the ice maker is a bit slow and a small….not sure that it will keep up during the summer but what auto ice maker in a refrigerator does? The third problem is that sometimes the ice dispenser door remains open too long and a “straggler” will fall out well after you’ve left the area. This has only occurred 3 or so times that we are aware of. The 4th issue is that we have not been able to get all the air out of the water line so the will always drip a few drops of water after using the automatic depenser…no big deal really. Finally, we had a “self-correcting” problem at one point. The freezer door was not making a good seal sometimes and we often would open it to find ice forming along the drawer hardware. Shortly after calling to have it fixed it stopped doing it and it has not occurred again. So all in all this is a very good product…at least at the 6 month mark. It has great capacity and we love the flex drawer. You can put tons of soda cans in there, in the upright position no less. And the freezer drawer has a shelf area just as you open it that can accommodate 6 or 7 pint glasses! Now that is BEAUTIFUL!
